RADIO TRACKING OF LOST PERSONS
On a very fine day in the park a good try out of the system on 310MHz was possible including Alan mobile with the test transmitter to and from Kaiti Hill. A second receiver was available and this allowed everyone to try tracking a person wearing one of the transmitter pendants. Much was learnt about use of the receivers and aerials and several amateurs are keen to have a fox hunt soon on 2 meters which will provide even more expertise in this field

Silent Keys
Ian, Peter and myself have removed the aerials from Basil's tower so it can be lowered. Henry has dismantled and removed aerials and equipment from Rob's station. Ross has supplied the paperwork on known silent keys in this area to NZART so corrections may be made to the MED records and thus the next call book. More examples of assistance to local amateurs provided by branch members Please note that changes of address to the MED are the responsibility of the amateur concerned

Radio Tracking
AREC have been asked to have trained operators available for using
radio location equipment used for tracking lost persons. A small radio
transmitter is attached to people who are likely to wonder off and get
lost. Each transmitter is on a different frequency and Search and
Rescue have purchased a tracker.
All interested persons are welcome to meet at Anzac Park at 1.30pm on
Sunday 30th of October to try out the tracker and run tests.
The club also hopes to run some hidden transmitter hunts now
the weather is finer

Rally 2011 A beautiful day for the rally. Difficult to get up at six but home by eleven to listen to the radio traffic from the later stages. HF gave good usage for the first stages and later a portable repeater was heard in use. The local repeaters at least in the early stages were mainly used as backup and were especially useful during the set up of the HF station The set up at the rally start, six stages with many of the local amateurs assisting the Hawkes Bay amateurs who were responsible for the rally comms which also involved portable repeaters and which should provide good experience for the week long North Island rally next year for those who will ...
